Memorials

I am always deeply honoured to be asked to make a memorial encapsulating cremation ashes. Having experienced a close death I appreciate how hard this time can be and also how helpful it can be to have a special way of remembering our loved ones.

I have several options available if you are considering a memorial. The most requested is a landscape featuring a special place. In this instance clients send me a photograph of a a place with particular meaning to them and I recreate this in glass. You have the option of having the ashes visible or hidden within the glass elements so only you know they are there. I work closely with you throughout the process to ensure your landscape is just what you want.

If a landscape doesn’t appeal many of my other designs can be adapted to include ashes. It might help to consider something your loved one was particularly fond of or that you enjoyed together such as the ocean, a love of forests and trees, gardening. A suncatcher to bring light into this dark time can be a particular comfort.

I also offer Pet Memorials. As a lifelong pet owner I also sadly know the pain of having to part with these creatures that are such an integral part of the family. The most popular pet memorial is a Rainbow Bridge; made popular from the poem.

Alternative options include encapsulating your pet’s paw print cut from copper or brass or creating a silhouette of them created from enamel or frit. This is a very personal piece and I will work with you to achieve what you have in mind wherever possible.

Whether you need a memorial to a loved one or a pet you can rest assured I will work with you to make the process as smooth as possible. All I need from you is a small amount of ash, if you would rather not retrieve a sample yourself please feel free to send me the whole amount and I will do that for you. I have a special place in my studio where I keep ashes while they are with me. I will return any unused to you with your final piece.

Cremation ash does not melt into glass during the fusing process. As such I ensure it is always fully encapsulated between glass layers. You can choose whether the ashes are in a visible area or hidden behind elements so you know they are there.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. I will be happy to talk through any ideas or worries you have. Please do have a look at my Memorials selection or suggest an item you would like to adapt.
